From Clue to Candy: What Happens After the Hunt?

“The Halloween Hunt may end with sweet treats, but the fun doesn’t stop there. Discover all the family activities waiting afterwards at Wild Pines.”

The Halloween Hunt doesn’t end when the last clue is solved. In many ways, that’s just the start of a full day at Wild Pines.

After you’ve swapped your potions for sweet treats, take a breather and decide where to head next. Our 13 hole woodland mini golf course is still competitive, but gentler on tired legs. Archery sessions run throughout the day, giving children and adults a chance to test their aim. For something calmer, the craft room offers a warm, creative space where younger children can make their own spooky decorations.

If energy levels are still high, the ropes courses and zip lines are waiting. Six courses, 22 zips, the perfect way to finish the day on a literal high. But if your family is ready to wind down, a stroll through Willingham Woods is a fine option. Autumn brings colour to the canopy, and the air is fresh enough to guarantee a good night’s sleep later.

Whatever you choose, the Halloween Hunt is just the spark. The rest of the day is yours to shape, with activities that keep everyone involved. One ticket, one woodland, endless possibilities.

The Making of a Halloween Hunt: Crafting Maps, Potions & Hidden Bats

“Behind every bat and ghost in our Halloween Hunt is careful planning. Here’s how we design the maps, props and clues that bring it to life.”

There’s a lot more to our Halloween Hunt than a few props in the woods. In fact, the planning begins months before the first pumpkin is carved.

It starts with the map. A good trail map needs to balance challenge with clarity, so we walk the woodland again and again, plotting routes that are safe, atmospheric and full of surprise. Only once the map works do we design the clues!

Then come the props: bats, ghosts, and of course the naughty wooden men. Each is crafted or sourced to withstand the outdoors, yet still be light enough for staff to move and reset quickly. We place them in clever locations where they’re visible to sharp eyes but easy to miss if you’re not paying attention.

Finally, we test. Staff run the hunt as though they’re guests, timing how long it takes, checking visibility in different light, and ensuring every step feels immersive.

By the time families arrive, the stage is set for maximum fun. What looks like simple magic is actually months of careful planning. And that’s exactly how we like it.

Halloween Hunt Fun for All Ages at Wild Pines

“Think Halloween hunts are just for little ones? At Wild Pines, we’ve made sure our spooky trail has something for every age group.”

Halloween hunts often sound like they’re just for children. At Wild Pines, we’ve flipped that idea on its head. Our Halloween Hunt is carefully designed to bring families together, toddlers, teens, parents and grandparents all included.

The trail itself has layers. Little ones enjoy spotting bats, ghosts and wooden figures tucked among the trees. Older children thrive on map-reading and clue-solving, while adults often get just as caught up in piecing together potion recipes and helping to crack trickier riddles.

Grandparents love the pace of the event too. The woodland paths are easy to follow, with benches and rest points along the way, so everyone feels included. It’s not about who’s fastest; it’s about who notices the details and who works best as a team.

After the trail, the choice continues. Active teens often head for the zip lines, while younger children dive into the craft room. Mini golf offers a calmer but still competitive option that gets everyone involved.

The result? Families leave with a shared story, each person remembering their favourite moment, whether it was spotting the first ghost or scoring a bullseye at archery. That’s what makes this hunt different: it’s not just a game, it’s an all-ages adventure.

5 Tips to Max Out Your Halloween Hunt Experience

“From when to arrive to what to wear, here are 5 top tips to help your family get the best from Wild Pines’ Halloween Hun

A good treasure hunt is all about strategy — and our Halloween Hunt is no different. To make sure you squeeze the most fun from your visit, here are five top tips straight from our team.

1. Arrive a little early. The woodland is at its most atmospheric in late afternoon. Give yourself time to park, check in, and get familiar with your map before setting off.

2. Dress for adventure. Think sturdy footwear, layers you can shed or add, and a waterproof if the forecast looks lively. Gloves are handy too.

3. Hunt in teams. Pair children with adults so the little ones get help with trickier clues while the grown ups enjoy the sense of discovery too.

4. Take your time. Rushing means missed clues. Pause at each stop and let the children lead, their eyes often catch details adults miss.

5. Save energy for more fun. After your hunt, keep the day rolling with mini golf, archery or the craft room. It’s the perfect way to round off the adventure.

Follow these tips, and you’ll leave with more than sweets, you’ll leave with memories that last.

The Naughty Wooden Men Strike Back: Behind the Halloween Hunt

“Ever wondered how we dream up our Halloween Hunt characters? From naughty wooden men to bats and ghosts, here’s the story behind the spooky fun.”

very Halloween, our woodland seems to take on a life of its own. Strange shapes emerge in the trees, whispers float on the breeze, and if you look closely enough, you might just spot the “naughty wooden men” who have become the stars of our annual Halloween Hunt.

These mischievous characters began life as hand-carved guardians of the woods, but in October they reveal their playful side. Along with bats, ghosts and other woodland spirits, they set the challenges you’ll face on your hunt. They love to confuse, trick and test your observation skills, and they hide in places you least expect — behind a tree trunk, beside a rope, or even in the middle of a clue you thought you’d solved.

The Halloween Hunt is built like a story. You collect “ingredients” for potions, spot spooky signs in the trees, and swap what you find for sweet rewards. But the real magic is in the atmosphere: twilight skies, crisp autumn leaves underfoot, and families laughing together as they puzzle their way around the course.

So when you hear laughter mixed with a whoosh on the zip lines, remember — the wooden men are watching. Will you outsmart them this year?

Why choice is our superpower: six activities, one woodland

High ropes, archery, mini golf, crafts, and Nerf Wars — Wild Pines is built for families who want choice. One woodland, endless ways to play.

Most outdoor centres hang their hat on a single headline just high ropes, just zip lines, or just mini golf. At Wild Pines we’ve deliberately built something different: a woodland where choice is the experience.

Start with the big one: our six high ropes courses with 22 ziplines, carefully tiered so families can climb together even at different confidence levels. Then branch out (literally) into archery, where trained instructors make bullseyes accessible for beginners and still challenging for sharpshooters.

Not in the mood for heights? Our 13 hole woodland mini golf weaves through trees and natural obstacles a surprisingly competitive hit with all ages. Indoors, the craft room offers calmer creativity, perfect for younger visitors or grandparents who’d rather glue than zip. Add in Nerf Wars tactical, fast, and safe and you’ve got something for every personality in a family or group.

This spread isn’t accidental. Research into family days out shows that variety is one of the top drivers of repeat visits when everyone finds “their thing,” groups come back together. That’s our difference: you don’t compromise between thrill seekers and chill-seekers. You all come, you all play, and you all leave with your own highlight reel.

Rain, wind, lightning: how we make weather calls and how to prep like a pro

Rain won’t stop play at Wild Pines — but wind or lightning might. Here’s how we make weather calls, and how to dress for safe, all-season fun.

A little British rain? We’re usually good to go. What triggers pauses are high winds, lightning, or conditions that reduce braking efficiency (think icy cables). We set clear thresholds and use real time monitoring; if weather crosses the line, we delay or re-sequence sessions for safety. Leading manufacturers and operators recommend exactly that: defined limits, live checks, and conservative calls in storms.

If severe weather forces changes, we’ll communicate quickly (text/email on the booking). Big UK operators take the same approach postpone or adapt when extremes hit so if you’ve adventured elsewhere, our policy will feel familiar.

What can you do? Dress like a hill walker on a fun day out: closed toe footwear with grip, light layers, and a waterproof you can actually move in. Gloves help on cooler days. UK safety guidance is simple: PPE has to be appropriate, fit properly, and not create new hazards so avoid loose scarves or slippery soles. We’ll check fit; you bring sensible shoes.

Bottom line: we’ll run whenever it’s safe and comfortable to do so and we’ll stop the moment it isn’t. That’s how you protect the fun without compromising the fundamentals.

What your harness, lanyard and trolley are certified to (and why that matters)

At Wild Pines, every harness, clip, and trolley is safety certified to European standards — so families can focus on fun while we handle the engineering.

When you clip in at Wild Pines, you’re stepping into a safety ecosystem where every part is independently certified. Your harness is built to EN 12277, the European benchmark that covers full-body harnesses for smaller participants as well as sit and chest harnesses for adults, so load is distributed properly if you slip and sit down into the kit.

Your connector hardware (the carabiner style bits that link you to the system) conforms to EN 12275, which sets rigorous strength and gate closure tests for climbing connectors. That matters because connectors take the brunt of day to day clipping, rubbing and shock forces.

Most importantly, our continuous-belay trolleys and lanyards are certified to EN 17109 the modern standard created for adventure-park safety systems. In plain English: once you’re on, you stay on, moving past obstacles without ever being “between” connections. That reduces instruction time, speeds up flow, and keeps families together especially helpful with mixed ages.

Layer that kit onto courses built and inspected to EN 15567, and you get belt and braces safety: certified PPE married to certified structures, checked routinely by trained inspectors. That’s the invisible engineering behind the big whoops you hear in the trees.

22 ziplines, 6 courses: how we designed a day that flows

With 6 courses and 22 ziplines, Wild Pines is designed for flow, variety, and family confidence-building — adventure that feels effortless from start to finish.

People tell us the magic at Wild Pines is momentum, you’re always moving forward. That’s by design. Our six courses ladder up in difficulty so confidence grows step by step, and yes, we built in a frankly joyful number of zip lines (22!) because flying is the fun part.

A good course is like a great playlist: varied, balanced and cleverly sequenced. You’ll find tree to tree crossings that test balance, routes to suit different ages, and plenty of “look at me Mum!” moments that are safe to attempt and satisfying to nail. Between runs, the woodland does its thing, cooler air, soft light and space to reset, thanks to careful management of the surrounding forest block.

Want to squeeze the most from a visit? Book a mix: a confidence builder in the morning, a snack and stroll, then a course with extra zips to finish on a high. If you’re bringing a group, ask us about pacing and we’ll help design your flow so the day feels effortless from harness to hot chocolate.

Multigenerational days out are booming—here’s how to plan one

From toddlers to teens to grandparents, multigenerational days out are booming — and Wild Pines makes them easy. With six courses, mini golf, crafts and archery, there’s something for everyone under the pines.

Grandparents, teens, toddlers and the dog (well, maybe not on the ropes) are heading out together more than ever. Travel trend reports show multigenerational trips on the rise in 2025, driven by families craving quality time and shared experiences. Build that spirit into a single day out and you’ve got the perfect Wild Pines plan.

Morning: split by comfort level. our Mini Courses for first-timers, Challenge or Zip Course for thrill-seekers. Midday: regroup with a picnic under the pines (shade, benches, easy paths for buggies). Afternoon: low intensity fun mini golf, craft room time, or archery taster, so everyone leaves on a high, not a collapse. (We can help sequence bookings so no one’s clock-watching between activities.)

Pro tip: nominate a “family photographer” and swap the role halfway through; you get better photos and fewer “all on phones” moments. And if you’re coordinating three households, set a shared note with meet times, footwear reminders and the kids’ snack list. Multigenerational days thrive on tiny bits of planning and plenty of wiggle room.

Heights with heart: how we keep you safe on the ropes

Shot of safety inspections

Behind every whoop on a zip line is a checklist as long as your harness straps. Our courses are built and operated to EN 15567 (the European ropes-course standard) which sets requirements for design, construction, inspection and everyday operation. What that means for you: independent experts sign off the big stuff, and our team obsesses over the details before you clip in.

Inspections aren’t a once a year moment. We carry out routine operational checks at regular intervals (typically every 1–3 months) and log them because paper trails matter as much as steel cables.

There’s also a formal periodic inspection by an independent body at least annually. Industry guidance in the UK aligns this to a maximum interval (no longer than 12–15 months depending on the scheme), which keeps a tight cadence on structural and safety critical components.

Add in staff training, rescue drills and daily pre-opens, and you get the best kind of invisible safety: the kind you don’t notice because you’re too busy flying past the pines.

What an amazing easter we’ve had

Busiest ever Easter at Wild Pines Park. So much fun was had as we saw signs of the sunshine too. We opened the doors to over 2000 people and are so thankful for everyone who spreads the word. Here’s a selection of the unbelievably lovely things people have said about us.

Sarah K

What a fabulous place! We didn't know wild pines park even existed untill recently, we visited for the first time Easter weekend and wasn't disappointed, we booked mini golf, Easter egg hunt and the beginners adventure course. We are a family of four and all decided to give this ago such a good experience so much fun we hadn't done anything like this before it was the BEST day! The staff were so friendly and always on hand to help or to give words of encouragement, We will definitely be back :)

Amy S

Such a fun afternoon! The different courses kept our children, 6,10 and 12, mum and dad and 72 year old grandpa well entertained! The team were fab, very kind and supportive. We especially liked manager Megan's kind, happy nature. We tried the crazy golf too, fun to play.

Would definitely recommend!

WENDY W

My husband and Grandson did the Zip wire, Great experience, amazing helpful staff, suitable for all ages and abilities. Our 20yr old Grandson loved it, highly recommend.

Special mention to Meghan, amazing young lady!

HI47

Brilliant day out with my two boys. They weren’t so sure, but when you get there the polite staff and their guidance is second to none. A HUGE shoutout has to go to Max. He greeted us as we arrived as he was watching over another group. He didn’t say don’t come to close etc etc. Just a friendly welcome and explained the courses, gave my boys high fives and said see you soon…….Then he did see them soon!! A little hiccup the 6 year old on the first zip wire. After some subtle instructions from Max, which didn’t compute with the little one, Max jumped up and encouraged him and away he went! Then for the next 2 hours two kids who had fear of heights and trees were suddenly flying along like Tarzan! Credit to the staff here. They make the experience, and thank you if you ever read this.

Gem M

Fabulous place to visit, practically on our doorstep - came with young children as their first time and it didn’t disappoint. We all had a fab time, experienced new things, accomplished new challenges and also did the the Easter egg hunt too. Staff were amazing, it was very well Organised and was just a fab day! Hammocks were a great hit it too! Cafe was great too

Sophie

Wild pines park is a fantastic place to visit. A really lovely location. The staff are friendly, welcoming and it was amazing how they knew where everyone was on the course at any one time. The rope courses are a good length and challenging. Plenty of zip wires too. The mini golf is great fun and different to the usual ones. We didn’t have time for archery or the bear hunts. It’s easy to spend 3-4 hours here and on a good weather day you could spend even more time. We will definitely be back.

Maureen H

Took my 2 grandsons here. They thoroughly enjoyed it. Zip wires and climbing trees. While there one of the courses had to close because of Storm Kathleen blowing a gale. We were offered a partial refund or a round of crazy golf and snacks. The boys chose the golf and chocolates. So 4 of us played crazy golf which was really good fun and the boys had chocolate bars.
The staff were so friendly and helpful. They constantly walked round checking that all was ok.
Despite the weather being drizzling and windy we had a great afternoon. Enjoyed the whole experience.

Cazbaggins

Amazing day! Staff were awesome, helped my 6 year old when he got a bit stuck. Great value and great fun! Loads for all ages

Rob

Absolute gem of a place. Been numerous times with the kids over the years. The courses are perfect for all abilities. Super value for money when you consider how many hours you can spend there.

Staff are knowledgeable and very helpful giving encouragement and assistance where required. Forget the big corporate activity centres - come here.

My kids are always exhausted by the end of the session.

Stacey N

My family (plus my daughter's friend) and I (41, 40, 14, 13, 10) have had a fabulous day here today. From the off, the team Erin, Daisy, Max and Alex were brilliant. We paid for the full experience and after a safety briefing, which included practising with the harness system, we were directed to the practice course. This is great to get to grips with moving around the steel ropes as it does take a bit of getting used to moving across the sections. From here we did the main course, the zip wire course and finally the challenge course. This was significantly harder than the main course and the the team were on hand when my youngest (and myself🙈) had a moment of struggle. They offered advice on how to tackle the section and some very welcome positive encouragement.

After dinner we all had a second attempt on all of the courses; the older two girls got extra in as they were much quicker and more fearless.

We finished the day off with my two daughters doing a time trial on the practice course, with Erin offering to time them. They didn't make the board but had fun trying.

The food and drink at the hut is very reasonablly priced, which was a very welcome surprise as often I feel you can be charged too much for a simple coffee.

This place itself is a great day out but made that much better because the staff are amazing. They genuinely want you to have a great time without any compromise on safety. They were very alert as to what was going on across the entire course and quick to act on anyone experiencing any moments of panic/fear.

We will all ache tomorrow.

Thanks guys.

Dennis S.

Took the grandchildren aged 8, 9 and 13 and had a fabulous time including myself who at 73 was a bit apprehensive since it looks and is in places quite physically demanding. Having said that its do able because there is no rush and plenty time to rest. The children absolutely loved it and we shall return in a few months when the youngest has stretched a couple of more inches. There is an advisory height of 1.4 metres to be able to complete the various courses on your own and the youngest at 1.3 metres struggled without my assistance, although he managed at his insistence 70% of the time which is why I took up the rear.

We paid for the full package which includes the challenge course which we were unable to complete due to the girls having some problems have way through. It was not the heights which they had a problem with but the revolving log pieces seemed to freak them out. But the staff very efficiently came to the rescue. So next visit we will definitely have a go again.

It is well organised with a very safe safety system which ensures that at no time are you disconnected from the safety cable.

When we go again I will make sure the kids practice several times on the change of direction mechanism which can be a bit daunting when you are 10 metres up a tree.

In conclusion I would recommend this experience to anyone who does not have an issue with heights.

And another plus is that other family members can go along at no charge to watch and have a picnic and in our case for granny to take videos and photos.
